SpareOne wins the 2013 Taiwan Excellence Silver Award.

SpareOne has recently won an excellence award for a multitude of characteristics, including quality, aesthetics, and innovation, this time from the Taiwan External Trade Development Council (TAITRA), taking the Silver category in the Taiwan Excellence Awards! This year, there were over 1,000 entries from almost 500 companies, with SpareOne taking a top 30 spot. We will be on display at the Taipei Airport and at Computex Taipei 2013 in June, along with several other winners.

“Products that earn Taiwan Excellence awards are of the highest quality while being aesthetically pleasing, environmentally friendly and boasting user-friendly designs,” a TAITRA official said.

TAITRA is sponsored by the Taiwanese government to recognize successful and innovative companies, as well as to promote consumer awareness of local manufacturers that are socially responsible and that provide product differentiation to the market.

“We are very proud and honored to receive this award. SpareOne has become a game-changing preparedness device since its launch, gaining international notoriety for its innovation and ability to keep lines of communication open when power is completely unavailable or inaccessible,” said Alan Cymberknoh, SpareOne Project Director at XPAL Power.

Jennifer Lawrence and Ben Affleck walked away with little golden statues for their on-camera and off-camera roles last Sunday, along with a simple little device that they may find just a bit more useful.

Lawrence and Affleck were among the recipients of the Hollywood Swag Bag featuring SpareOne, the world’s first and only emergency mobile phone powered by a single AA battery.

The Energizer Ultimate Lithium battery inside guarantees fifteen years of battery life– users can simply toss it in a glove box or an emergency kit and be confident that when it is needed, SpareOne will be ready. SpareOne gives an impressive ten hours of talk time, so not only can you make that emergency call by pressing the big red button, you can also contact friends or family members by sliding in a SIM card.

Other celebrities who snagged the SpareOne were Jessica Chastain, Hugh Jackman, Amy Adams, Steven Speilberg, Zoe Saldana, Tim Burton, Sally Field, and Seth McFarlane. For more information about SpareOne, please visit www.SpareOne.com.

SpareOne recieves highly respected Editors’ Choice award from PCMAG

4 Star review and Editors’ Choice award for SpareOne!

  • Bottom LineBuilt to last for 15 years on a single AA battery, the SpareOne earns a place in the modern emergency preparedness toolkit.

When we were preparing for Hurricane Irene in New York City last August, I realized just how ill-equipped for an emergency I really was…. but what I remember most was how terrified I felt at the prospect of losing power and the battery in my cell phone dying, leaving me completely disconnected.

That probably wouldn’t have been as great a concern if I had a SpareOne Emergency Phone at my disposal. Built to last for 15 years on a single AA battery, the SpareOne can place emergency calls even without a SIM card. It doesn’t have a display, and call quality isn’t great, but the peace of mind it affords you makes it an essential addition to the modern emergency preparedness toolkit. As a result, it wins our Editors’ Choice award.

Mobile minimalism trumps fancy smartphones

The Computex IT trade show in Taipei isn’t really the place to see the latest smartphones – that’s what Mobile World Congress in Barcelona is for. We did stumble across an intriguing mobile phone that captured our imagination though. The Xpal Spare One is a simple mobile phone that runs on just a single AA battery. It’s designed as an emergency phone that you can buy for peanuts at a petrol station or convenience store when your fancy battery-sapping smartphone runs out of power. Just slot in your usual SIM or microSIM card and you can make or receive calls.
